The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is mandating income tax payments for ride-hailing vehicle owners, as per Regulations 2016, Ll 2244, Section 22 where the law requires any commercial vehicle owner that earns income from the operation of a commercial vehicle to pay income tax on quarterly basis. Under Revenue Administration Act, 2016 (Act 915), Sections 1, 33, and 35, the Commissioner General has authority to enforce tax compliance.
All Ghana ride-hailing vehicle owners must perform a one-time vehicle registration at any GRA office for Vehicle Income Tax (VIT) payment.
For ride-hailing companies operating in Ghana, compliance steps include updating digital platforms to demand VIT payment evidence for both new and existing vehicles.
Guidelines for Ride-hailing Companies:
- Demand a softcopy of the VIT sticker.
- Validate sticker authenticity with GRA.
- Submit quarterly vehicle lists to GRA.
These regulations come into effect on Monday, January 1, 2024.
Stay compliant, avoid penalties.
